Senior Interior Designer | Workplace & Commercial Interiors | San Francisco

If you've spent the last decade leading workplace and commercial interiors from the first visioning session through to move in day, and you want real ownership of your projects (and a real stake in the firm), this opportunity might well be for you.

A respected, award winning architecture and interiors practice in San Francisco is hiring a Senior Interior Designer to lead its workplace projects. You'll need 12+ years in workplace, commercial interiors and tenant improvement work, with built projects to show for it.

You'll act as lead designer on several complex projects at once, run small to mid size teams and work side by side with the Principals, Architects and Project Managers. Clients will see you in the room from the first pitch and real estate tour right through to post occupancy.

What you'll do

  • Lead design on multiple workplace and commercial interiors projects, from test fits and concept through CDs, CA and post occupancy studies
  • Run client meetings including pitches, visioning, programming, workplace strategy and detailed design presentations
  • Manage small to mid size project teams and mentor junior designers in the studio and on site
  • Work directly with clients, furniture dealers, fabricators, consultants, contractors and building agencies
  • Keep a close eye on cost estimates and design budgets
  • Support new business through proposals, interviews and PR

What you'll bring

  • 12+ years in interior design or architecture, with a primary focus on workplace, commercial interiors and tenant improvement
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in interior design or architecture
  • Proven experience as lead designer across every phase, with built workplace projects in your portfolio
  • Deep knowledge of workplace strategy, design research and FF&E, plus a clear grasp of corporate real estate goals
  • Strong working knowledge of California building, fire and accessibility codes for interiors
  • Expert Revit skills, plus Adobe Creative Suite and Mural
  • Enscape, hand sketching and Citrix experience are a real plus
  • Hands on LEED or WELL project experience, with NCIDQ or CCIDC certification and LEED or WELL accreditation strongly preferred
  • A generous, collaborative leader who enjoys mentoring and thrives at pace

The package

  • $115,000 to $145,000 base, depending on experience
  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision
  • 401(k) plus pre tax FSAs for medical, childcare and commuting
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • Employee stock ownership after your first year
  • Hybrid working, with regular in person time at the studio, with clients and on site

About the studio

This employee owned practice has spent decades building a reputation for thoughtful, people centered design. With studios in several major US cities, they work across commercial, institutional, education and residential sectors, with workplace at the heart of what they do. Wellness, sustainability and equity shape every project, as does a real passion for bringing existing buildings back to life. Egos stay at the door. The work is collaborative and led by the client's vision.

You'll lead meaningful workplace projects with a close knit team that puts real value on mentoring, continuous learning and work life balance.
